To celebrate the opening of Nick Cave: Sojourn, the Denver Art Museum (DAM) will present a community performance of epic proportions at Untitled #58 (Getup) on June 28. Cave’s Soundsuits are like sculptures for the human body, meticulously constructed of found objects such as buttons, twigs, stuffed animals and wigs. Cave, who trained professionally with Alvin Ailey, activates the Soundsuits through the movements of dance.
Spun: Adventures in Textiles, the Denver Art Museum’s (DAM) newest exhibition, is on view through September 22. At the heart of Spun—a wide-ranging look at textiles from pre-Columbian weavings to Navajo blankets to an examination of how contemporary artists are working with fabric—is the museum’s new textile art galleries, debuting with the inaugural show Cover Story.
The Denver Art Museum (DAM) announced today that it will break ground on a new staff office building in April 2013. The new 50,000-square foot structure will be located immediately west of the museum's Hamilton Building and directly south of the Clyfford Still Museum on property owned by the DAM that currently serves as a staff parking lot. Presently, more than 100 museum employees, including administration, curators and other staff, are housed in office space five blocks away at 14th Street and Tremont.
The Denver Art Museum (DAM) takes a wide-ranging look at textiles from pre-Columbian weavings to Navajo blankets to an examination of how contemporary artists are working with fabric in Spun: Adventures in Textile, on view May 19 through September 22. The museum’s newly opened and renovated textile art galleries, debuting with the inaugural show Cover Story, are at the heart of this campus-wide event.
The Denver Art Museum (DAM) announced today a $1.75 million gift from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that will continue the transformation of the museum’s textile art department. A grant of $1.5 million in the form of a challenge to be matched one-to-one within three years will help establish a $3 million endowment to support a full-time textile conservator. In addition to the endowed position, the grant will provide $250,000 for a fellowship in textile conservation.
