Behind the Scenes at the DAM

Thread Studio Artist Profiles

This series introduces some of the fiber artists who conduct demonstrations in the Nancy Lake Benson Thread Studio.

We conceived of the Nancy Lake Benson Thread Studio as an exploratory space where curious visitors could feel comfortable exploring textile art alongside experienced fiber artists; where anyone could find something of interest and to spark inspiration. But it has turned into something more: fiber artists are bringing their materials and working in the space. Spinners, weavers, embroiderers, and lace makers are bringing their techniques to life through drop-in demos in the Thread Studio on a regular basis.

Fridays are when you're most likely to meet an artist in the Thread Studio, though the demos are unscheduled. Stop in and watch, ask questions, and even try it yourself.

Stefania Van Dyke is the master teacher for textile art and special projects in the education department at the Denver Art Museum. Stefania has been at the DAM since 2012 and her favorite (non-textile) experience here was Side Trip, associated with The Psychedelic Experience: Rock Posters from the San Francisco Bay Area, 1965-1971, exhibition in 2009.
